Microsoft is attempting to encrypt files and/or the entire hard disk with several measures at once
1. Windows 11 24H2 secretly encrypts the PC – deactivate device encryption . Tuhl Teim DE .
On many new Windows 11 24H2 PCs, you will find the Device encryption option in the Windows 11 settings. With Windows 11 Home and Pro, this encrypts the PC and laptop as such. This Windows 11 device encryption is an extension of Bitlocker. Device encryption also appears on Windows 11 Home. If you use a Microsoft account, the data carrier is encrypted after logging in.
Windows 11 switches on this device encryption by default on many computers when Windows 11 24H2 is reinstalled. If you log in to Windows with a Microsoft account, this encryption is completed in the background.
This option is available on many new PCs with Windows 11 24H2, but not on all, apparently depending on the bios and the processor used.

2. Windows 11 encrypts hard disk with Bitlocker without being asked
The latter had also happened to us previously with Bitlocker. Lenovo customer laptops had been encrypted without the customer being informed of the key.
A motherboard replacement resulted in a complete loss of data.
The key was not stored in the Microsoft account, as stated by Microsoft.

Jody Bruchon’s video drew our attention to the fact that this problem exists and is indeed systematic. As explained in the video by PC repair store owner Jody Bruchon Tech , www.jodybruchon.com , the TPM 2.0 module required with Windows 11 may also have been used as an encryption key. If a laptop or computer is defective and the mainboard has to be replaced, the data is gone.

3. Switch off
This can be switched off in the “Settings” on the left under “Data protection and security”.
Be sure to deactivate the button for device encryption, then click on “BitLocker drive encryption” and deactivate the button there too!
