Basic setup of Samba / smb under LinuxMint.
Samba installation via Software Manager
The following apps from the store or the Software Manager are therefore required:
– Samba
– Samba-libs
– Samba-common-bin
Via command line in the terminal
In any case, apt-get install will install Samba
apt-get install samba
For Samba, the passwords must be set specifically for this with sudo smbpasswd -a BENUTZERNAME
sudo smbpasswd -a USERNAME
The first password that the terminal requests is the administrator password for the root user. Then it asks for the Samba password for the network and finally again for confirmation of the Samba password.
SMB has its own passwords under Linux / LinuxMint
“sudo smbpasswd -a Benutzer” – enter an existing user.
sudo smbpasswd -a Username
Dann Linux Benutzer-Kennwort eingeben. Im Anschluss das neue SMB-Passwort und dann die Bestätigung des SMB Passworts. Das ganze funktioniert dabei ausschließlich für schon existierende Benutzer .

The user must in any case be in the Sambashare group – to do this, search for users in the menu and check “Sambashare” in the groups.
